On July 9th, Jean Ducey, local children’s author, passed away in Kansas. Mrs. Ducey wrote Out of This Nettle in 1983 and twelve years later authored, The Bittersweet Time.

Out of This Nettle is a fictional adventure about the Underground Railroad and a brave lady newspaper editor, Jane Van Vliet.  Fast forward in time to the Depression Years and pick up her other children’s book, The Bittersweet Time. What fun to read a book where you know the streets and can still visit many of the places that are mentioned on the printed page.

Gloria talks with Sally Ginter, Janey Waterhouse and Darlene Jackson about their memories of Jean in this tribute.
